What does private school actually cost across multiple children?
Most schools quote a single fee per year level. Real family cost compounds: multiple kids, 6+ years each, 5% annual fee inflation, plus a sibling discount you'll need to ask about. This calculator runs the math.

How sibling discounts actually work in Australia
Most Australian independent schools offer a sibling discount, but few advertise the figure on their website. You'll typically need to ask Admissions directly. The most common patterns:
- Tiered: 5% off 2nd child, 10% off 3rd, 15% off 4th+ (common at Anglican + Independent schools)
- Flat: 10% off all subsequent siblings (common at Catholic schools)
- Capped: 25–35% off the school's stated fee for the 4th+ child (common at large Catholic systemic schools)
- No discount: Many of the most academic schools (Sydney Grammar, MGS, Scotch) offer no sibling discount at all on the basis that fees are already capped via foundation endowment
The calculator above assumes a flat % discount on every child after the first. Adjust the slider to model your school's stated policy.
What's not included: capital levies, building funds, technology levies, uniform (typically $1,500–3,000 first kit), camps, music lessons, tutoring, academic enrichment, casual + formal occasions. Total cost of attendance is typically 8–15% above the headline tuition.
